Our Philosophy students are trained to do philosophy as they study the writings of great philosophers. In nearly every course you take with us, you are therefore engaged to some extent in philosophical research.
Students who take P300 Philosophical Methods and Writing are trained in philosophical methods and develop a 15-18 page piece of independent philosophical work over the course of the semester.
Students in 400-level Philosophy courses are similarly expected to produce an independent piece of substantial philosophical work.
Students with Philosophy GPAs over 3.5 who join the Honors Program have the opportunity to undertake a year-long, independent philosophical research project.
Many Philosophy students have presented their work at undergraduate research conferences and published in undergraduate research journals.
