IU Philosophy majors go on to graduate school in a wide range of areas, including Philosophy, Law, Medicine, Public Policy, Business, Economics, Journalism, Education, and Social Work. The key to preparing for graduate school is to make sure that you take the right courses. For instance, if you are considering medicine, take Philosophy courses along with a premed curriculum. If you are interested in journalism, complement your Philosophy courses with a selection of courses in The Media School. If you are interested in Politics or Public Policy, consider the Philosophy-Political Science interdepartmental major and perhaps one of the minors from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Students interested in graduate school in Philosophy should take more than the minimum courses required for the major.
